One standard for every kind of Front Range house

A kitchen in a Capitol Hill Victorian and a kitchen in a new Castle Rock build share almost nothing except the need for good planning. The ceilings, the walls you can and can't move, the permit office, the HOA and even the light coming through the windows all change as you drive along I-25. What doesn't change is how we work: the kitchen is drawn from the architecture of the house, every decision is made on paper before anything is ordered, and one set of drawings carries the project from the first meeting to the last adjustment.

Why Erie works as a base

Erie sits between Boulder and the I-25 corridor, close to the Northwest Parkway and E-470. That puts Boulder County, the north and west metro and Northern Colorado within a short drive, with Denver, the south metro and Douglas County a straightforward run down the interstate. Colorado Springs is the farthest point we serve, and projects there follow exactly the same visit schedule as projects next door.

New construction and remodels

For new homes we prefer to join during design development, when window positions, ceiling heights and mechanical routes can still be set around the kitchen plan. For remodels, the house sets the terms: structure, plumbing stacks and ductwork decide more than any mood board, so every remodel starts with a measured survey. Our full list of services covers design, cabinetry, materials, appliance and lighting integration, and installation.

How the Front Range differs, region by region
RegionTypical housesPlanning notes
Pikes PeakHillside and view lots, newer custom homesPermits run through the Pikes Peak Regional Building Department. Views west toward the peak often decide where the sink and windows go.
Douglas CountyMaster-planned and golf communities, new semi-custom buildsCovenant communities often require architectural committee approval for exterior changes, which can include a new hood vent or a widened window.
DenverVictorians, Denver Squares, Tudors, bungalows and mid-century ranchesDesignated landmarks and historic districts go through Landmark Preservation review for exterior work, so venting and window changes are planned early.
West and North MetroMid-century ranches, foothill homes, 1990s and 2000s subdivisionsOpening walls in older ranches is common; foothill sites add wildfire-area requirements and steeper access for deliveries.
Boulder CountyMining-era cottages, mid-century homes, Marshall Fire rebuilds, new buildsThe City of Boulder adopts its own energy code amendments; Louisville and Superior are still rebuilding after the 2021 Marshall Fire.
Northern ColoradoHistoric districts in Fort Collins and Loveland, new custom homes on larger lotsFort Collins reviews work on designated historic properties; newer communities in Windsor and beyond bring HOA design guidelines.

Questions about our service area

01Where is Erie Kitchens based, and how far do you travel?

We are based in Erie, Colorado, between Boulder and the I-25 corridor. Our service area runs along the Front Range from Colorado Springs in the south to Fort Collins in the north, including the Denver metro. If your project is outside the towns listed here, ask; we can tell you quickly whether it makes sense for both of us.

02Do you work with my architect or builder, or do you replace them?

We work alongside them. On new construction we usually join during design development and produce the kitchen drawings that the architect and builder coordinate with. On a remodel we often bring in the trades ourselves or work with a contractor you already trust. Either way, every trade builds from one shared drawing set.

03How many times will you visit the house during a project?

At minimum: an initial walk-through, a measured survey, site checks against the drawings before cabinetry is built, the installation itself and stone templating after the cabinets are set. Projects with an architect or builder add coordination meetings. Distance from Erie does not change the number of visits a kitchen needs.

04Does the dry Colorado climate affect cabinetry differently from town to town?

The whole Front Range is dry, and indoor humidity drops further once the furnace runs. Higher towns like Monument and Evergreen sit at greater altitude than Fort Collins or Denver, but the specification answer is the same: stable cores, acclimated timber and finishes chosen for low humidity. Our article on wood cabinetry in Colorado's dry climate covers it in detail.
